Why Do We Get the Funk on Holiday Weekends?

Image
It's the Sunday before Labor Day. Most people have the day off tomorrow, so what could go wrong? True to form, the greater Tangerine area had odor complaints just in time for the holiday.  How the Day Started Another holiday weekend ruined by the local stink. The wind is coming from the NE so I'm guessing it's from a local dump in Lake County.  Weather Information: 8:26 am-a fetid garbage odor is blanketing the neighborhood 78 degrees Precipitation 0.00 Wind and gusts from the NE at 3 mph Humidity 97% Pressure rising 30.04 An e-mail was sent to Maria Repass re the odor. Comments - 10:21pm: Stoneybrook Hills- Smells like sewer, reported to both sites . Winds are calm / coming from N/NW - Got some serious funk when I got home at 10:20 PM in Stoneybrook again. It went away now but it was nasty. So Why Do We Get the Funk on Holiday Weekends? .....

It's Not Too Late to Send a Letter RE: Shelley Hearing

I talked to Rose Kelley at Code Enforcement today and, although they would have liked to have all input for the hearing 24 hours in advance, you can still send a letter for the hearing.  The e-mail address is coderesearch@ocfl.net. Please include your address in your e-mail.  You don't have to speak to write a letter.  The hearing starts at 9 am tomorrow. The agenda is below and the Shelley's are the first four items on the agenda. If you wish to attend virtually or by phone or to speak, this link tells you how to do it.  Note: to see samples of letters submitted for the hearing click here.

Odor Report 3/22/2020

The Daily Sludge Report March 22, 2020 Zero Days Without A Smell Report Check back for updates as reports come in- Please note that odor reports are from a  voluntary Facebook group  and each odor  report represents an unknown number of individuals who are also aware  of the smells that are permeating our neighborhoods. Not all odor events are reported due to the pervasive nature of the smell. If we reported every event, we'd get nothing else done due to the intermittent nature of the odors. Now we are concerned that our respiratory irritation could predispose us to Coronavirus. I'm not even sure that they should even be open during this time.  LA Times Article on Pollution and Coronavirus  Posted on Anuvia's FB page tonight Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff  9:00 am  I smell a nasty sweet poopy smell. Dora/Dudley. It has to be local to this area. Is anybody digging up a septic drai...

March 11, 2020 The Daily Sludge Report Zero Days Without A Smell Report Check back for updates as reports come in Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff  8:02 am  Driving home from work just now smelled strong sulfur smell between Renningers and 46. Gone once I passed 46. Then I hit Sadler and Monterey's smell was STRONG. It remained pretty strong the rest of my drive home. It's still strong at my home on Willow. It was most definitely was NOT Anuvia or Shelleys. [See the documentation below. Blogger is acting up this morning and I can't put it in where I want to. Admin.] It smells horrible all the way from Stoneybrook to Tangerine at the moment. My son said it smells like  💩  on the way to school. Yes, I'm getting strong smells this morning too round lake rd near 46. It's really strong by Jones Avenue. I smelled a faint bad odor at 7:30 and then again at 10:30 last night. The Daily Sludge Report There was no report yesterday as the conditions were the same as 3/7/2020 Zero Days Without A Smell Report Check back for updates as reports come in Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff  We rate today as four breaths of fresh air! There was no odor until 8 pm and it was light to medium in some areas on the Northside of Lake Ola. It wasn't detectable in all areas. The wind was coming in from the Southeast to East today.  No real news today I sent an e-mail to Anuvia to ask if they're running because there's no smell  😅 and the wind is ESE. I know that they've been working with FDEP on the odor problem. Don't forget about the meeting on March 17, 2020, at 8 pm at the Tangerine Improvement Society building. [I never got an answer from them.] There was a slight smell in front of Anuvia today I hate to be the one to post this, but we got home from the gym a while ago and I smelled somethin...

Our Change.Org Petition for Fresh, Clean, Air in Northwest County

Image
Greetings, I created a petition to garner support for our efforts to have fresh, clean air in our neighborhoods once again. The text of the petition is posted below. I hope that you'll find it in your heart to sign and share to help us get the word out. If the hotlink doesn't work for you here is the URL http://chng.it/5SdVhKph24 Our local community, Tangerine, Zellwood, and the surrounding neighborhoods have been plagued with some horrible smells in the last few years.  There are a number of stinky businesses that have caused us to band together. We report the smell incidents in our Facebook group and send e-mails to our state and local officials when they occur.  The commercial above was filmed in Tangerine and should give you an idea of how natural this area is.    Despite our efforts, the noxious odors are getting worse. We are being held hostage by "That Smell." Some days it's so bad that we can't go out in our yards and, on the worst d...

Resident Complaint Re: Bad Aromas in Tangerine- Tangerine Stinks

Dear Ms. Repass and Ms. Gardner,  I am REDACTED and I’ve lived in Orange County’s rural settlement, Tangerine for 21 years, raised in Orange County for 68 years.  There have often been ripe aromas from time to time; mostly experiencing the horse bedding/soil used by the Mushroom plant. With a nearby animal cemetery, we apparently have smelled it.  Only in the last maybe two years have we endured pungent, obnoxious human waste smells. These odors affect our quality of life, interfere with enjoying breezes through open windows or sitting on a front porch or back screened porch. Walking the dog is unpleasant when human waste smells waft our way.   Tangerine is a bird sanctuary. We chose to live in a rural neighborhood because of fresh air and wide-open spaces, starry nights and sun soaked days. The smells of late are diminishing that life quality and I fear if not solved, will diminish our property values.  Our government leaders owe taxpayers a safe...

E-mail Sent Re Objectionable Odors 2_24_2020

Greetings, I'm writing to formally request your help in dealing with an odor issue that has been plaguing my community. The odors we are experiencing are from various community businesses in Northwest Orange County. Some of our local businesses disregard the odor ordinances with impunity and have been cited in the past. Still, the problems continue to exist.  I am REDACTED and live in Tangerine Rural Settlement. There is currently an objectionable odor that I associate with Shelley's Septic Tanks and Anuvia's operation in Zellwood wafting our way. The wind was blowing from the Southeast. This odor is affecting me by irritating my throat and keeping me indoors. The residents here are working to make our air pleasant and safe for our families. Please record this report of the odor and forward it to the appropriate departments. To date, the following actions have been taken: E-mails have been sent to the officials above repeatedly Florida DEP has issued warnings to...

Clarification on PRR Result in No Citations for Shelley's Septic Tanks 2_23_2020

Image
The long story short is that I e-mailed Robert Spivey of Code Enforcement regarding the lack of documents regarding Shelley's Septic Tanks and the fact that we know they were cited. First, I'll attach my e-mail and second, I'll post his reply.  Mark your calendars.

I sent an e-mail to everyone on our list yesterday thanking them for the help they've given us. Now it's my turn to thank you for your support. Starting this page wasn't an easy thing to do because I didn't know how much we could accomplish. We still have a long way to go on this, but I want to let you know just how much I appreciate your support on our "smelly" issue. Of the people on the list, @ashley Gardner of the FDEP has been the most consistently helpful. Here is her response: Respectfully, K.
