March 2021 Odor Update for Tangerine and Surrounding Neighborhoods

Odors on March 12, 2021

Image
Once again, we had a Saturday night ruined by bad odors. I'd love to see Tangerine become a hub for commercials and short films again. In the past, we've had Tiger Woods, Cialis, Purina, and Labatt Blue Beer commercials shot here. I don't see how that can happen if the location managers and production companies won't shoot here due to the odor.

Mount Dora Waste Water Treatment Plant E-mails

The text of a recent e-mail chain to a Mount Dora city official regarding the odor and the response. Please note that many residents have complained and this is just information from one resident.  December 4, 2020 Dear Mr. Grusaukas, I had to go to CVS in Mount Dora last night at 10:00 p.m.  I was traveling north on 441 and when I got to Stoneybrook Parkway there was a horrible sewage smell, even with the car windows up.  When I got to the top of the hill to the water plant the smell was enough to make you gag!  I continued to smell it all the way to Renningers.   45 minutes later when I was returning home and traveling south on 441 the stench was still there.  I cannot believe the poor residents of Stoneybrook are subjected to this.  What is wrong with the water plant?  I travel to Leesburg all the time and go right past their water plant and it never smells.  Mount Dora’s water plant is also an eyesore!  It is covered in black mold an...

Join Us at the Mount Dora City Council Meeting

Image
Odors noted in Stoneybrook and Sullivan Ranch. The is a public speaking portion of the Mount Dora City Council meetings. The Council was unaware of the odors at the October meeting as our complaints weren't getting to them. We plan to address the odors coming from the Mt. Dora Wastewater Treatment Plant on 441. I personally made a complaint in September and a city official came to my house but didn't write a report because he "didn't want it put out on the internet." We need to make our complaints heard.

Why Do We Get the Funk on Holiday Weekends?

Image
It's the Sunday before Labor Day. Most people have the day off tomorrow, so what could go wrong? True to form, the greater Tangerine area had odor complaints just in time for the holiday.  How the Day Started Another holiday weekend ruined by the local stink. The wind is coming from the NE so I'm guessing it's from a local dump in Lake County.  Weather Information: 8:26 am-a fetid garbage odor is blanketing the neighborhood 78 degrees Precipitation 0.00 Wind and gusts from the NE at 3 mph Humidity 97% Pressure rising 30.04 An e-mail was sent to Maria Repass re the odor. Comments - 10:21pm: Stoneybrook Hills- Smells like sewer, reported to both sites . Winds are calm / coming from N/NW - Got some serious funk when I got home at 10:20 PM in Stoneybrook again. It went away now but it was nasty. So Why Do We Get the Funk on Holiday Weekends? .....

It's Not Too Late to Send a Letter RE: Shelley Hearing

I talked to Rose Kelley at Code Enforcement today and, although they would have liked to have all input for the hearing 24 hours in advance, you can still send a letter for the hearing.  The e-mail address is coderesearch@ocfl.net. Please include your address in your e-mail.  You don't have to speak to write a letter.  The hearing starts at 9 am tomorrow. The agenda is below and the Shelley's are the first four items on the agenda. If you wish to attend virtually or by phone or to speak, this link tells you how to do it.  Note: to see samples of letters submitted for the hearing click here.

Letter to Amy Yoder of Anuvia Plant Nutrients

Image
May 31, 2020 Amy Yoder, CEO Anuvia Plant Nutrients  PO Box 220 Zellwood, Fl 32798 Dear Ms. Yoder, I’m your neighbor of sorts. I live three miles north of 6751 W. Jones Avenue, Zellwood 32798.  Until this January I had only a vague idea of the location of your plant and I’d never heard of Anuvia. I had never driven down  Jones Avenue for any reason and I’ve lived her for 26 years.  Around the time that your plant opened I was aware of a foul odor. Sometimes it was horrible and at other times it was simply disagreeable. Unfortunately, due to the position of our home, we get the smell from your stack whenever you’re running (and sometimes for hours after you’ve shut down) and the wind is blowing in from the South.  The odors increased in frequency and intensity when your plant increased production some time around January.  Since that time I’ve become familiar with the sickly sweet smell of hydrogen sulfide.  My understanding...
