Dr Kane was Making Rounds Today

Image
I was keeping an eye out for my friend and neighbor to pick up some Christmas gifts I'd made, so when I saw a car similar to hers across the street I ran out there. Well, it wasn't my friend, it was Dr. Kane of the FDEP who was making his rounds. He was following up on some recent odor reports.  We discussed the recent odor reports I'd submitted. The wind had been coming in from the North during these occurrences so that ruled out Monterey Mushrooms, Shelley's Septic Tank, and Anuvia which isn't running anyway.  That left the landfill, the Mount Dora Wastewater Treatment plant, and, news to me, a private lift station in Stoneybrook Hills. We discussed the nature of the odor in the recent reports.  I told him about Hubbard's application to be annexed into Mount Dora and those various members of the Mount Dora City Council that had visited the Hubbard Landfill unannounced and found nothing significant. He asked if these recent odors smelled of sewage and I told ...

Updates on Anuvia- Increased Production Planned

Image
The air in Tangerine and the surrounding neighborhoods have been free, for the most part, of the stink of Anuvia since mid-June. We can't rest too easy though, because Anuvia has plans to sell a lot of fertilizer in the future.  The latest update on Anuvia from the Orange County Environmental Protection Department indicated that they had been shut down since June 3, 2020. Anuvia has stated in the past they plan to ramp up production in the fall for the Spring 2021 planting season.  According to Total Landscape Care , Anuvia hired a new vice-president to " lead Anuvia’s efforts to build existing retail and distribution alliances while seeking to create new customer partnerships to further advance the sales of SymTRX, Anuvia’s bio-based, sustainable fertilizer." Anuvia is currently working with the Mosaic Plant in Plant City to utilize their space for fertilizer production while continuing to produce fertilizer [there.] This is general knowledge in the indu...

For Zellwood, Tangerine, Surrounding Neighborhoods May 3, 2020 We Have Odor Reports Today A Note From the Editor We are now able to report odors to the FDEP online. We still need to send an e-mail or call Orange County to report to them. Orange County is working on having an online system to report and it was supposed to be up this week. For Zellwood, Tangerine, Surrounding Neighborhoods May 1-2, 2020 We Have Odor Reports Today A Note From the Editor I spoke with Daniel Vanegas of Christine Moore's office today. The takeaway for me was two-fold. First, our reporting has been great. He specifically mentioned videos of smoke spewing from Anuvia's stack. Second, the county is weaseling away from this due to the possibility of multiple sources of the smell.  So we need to redouble our efforts to report to Orange County by e-mail. We also need to follow up. I am happy to keep pestering them but I need to ask you to send e-mails to Orange County as well whenever you use FDEP's online reporting tool.  This is the only way we are going to get this problem fixed. It's a long slog, I know, but we are in this for the long haul and we can't give up. Please, please send e-mails when you smell the odors.  Be as specific as you can be as to time, wind direction, atmospheric pres...

For Zellwood, Tangerine, Surrounding Neighborhoods April 29, 2020 We Have Odor Reports Today A Note From the Editor: Tangerine, Zellwood, and the surrounding neighborhoods are fed up with the odors coming from #Anuvia and #ShelleysSeptic.  My e-mail to Orange County tonight: To All Interested Parties, The people of Tangerine, Zellwood, and Surrounding Neighborhoods are becoming increasingly frustrated by the obnoxious odors we’ve experienced. We’re grateful for the online reporting tool from the FDEP but, when it comes to Orange County, we’ve been waiting patiently for a month and we still have no online reporting available.  This is ironic because Orange County promised this to us first. For the last 2-3 weeks, we've been told that it was coming soon, and we haven't seen anything yet.  I'm including a link so you can see how FDEP's reporting link works.  https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5565106/Central-District-Tangerine-Area...
