Another Letter to Mount Dora Regarding the Dump and the City Council Meeting

Image
Dear Mr. Sandersfeld, It is my understanding that Mid-Florida Materials (dump) has requested that the City of Mount Dora annex their property.  It is also my understanding that this issue is to be voted on at the city council meeting to be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020. I was wondering if you could advise me if the city will aggressively deal with the problem of the odors emanating from the dump as a condition of the annexation.   I live on Lake Ola Drive and we have had problems lately with odors from the dump.  We reported this to Lake County and when their person came out to investigate he basically said he did not believe us, that the odors could not travel this far and that he was not going to write a report.  This was told to my neighbor who had tree trimmers working at her house at the time who also verified that they could smell the objectionable odors. Our area has been vigorously fighting severe odor issues with Shelley's Septic and Anuvi...

Mount Dora Council Meeting to Consider Annexing the Dump on 46 Into the City

Image
The dump on 46 that has been the source of recent smells in our area is about to be annexed by Mount Dora! The annexation is scheduled for the Mount Dora City Council meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. We need all able bodies to show up at the city council meeting to show opposition to the annexation of the dump! Please go to the city council meeting if you are available! Thank you in advance! Below is a comment typical of those we get from nearly residents who have lived with the smell of this dump for years. It's much worse in the Sullivan Ranch area than it is in Tangerine. There are many others but it's 5:30 am and I went to bed after midnight so I'm stopping here.  - First thank you for accepting me in this group, second I wake up to that aweful smell as well I live in Sullivan ranch, I’ve been here for about 8 yrs and it has gotten worse over the yrs. I’m hoping it gets resolved what can I do to help it along? Please come to the meeting. We cannot ...

Update from Labor Day Dumpy Smell

Image
Daniel from Commissioner Moore's office responded almost immediately to the e-mail I sent yesterday.  So we responded immediately as well.  We also got more information about the location. The dump is located in Lake County but smell knows no boundaries so we can smell it in Tangerine on occasion.  I'd like to extend special thanks to the Facebook group members who helped me get the address and information for Commissioner Moore's office.

Our Change.Org Petition for Fresh, Clean, Air in Northwest County

Image
Greetings, I created a petition to garner support for our efforts to have fresh, clean air in our neighborhoods once again. The text of the petition is posted below. I hope that you'll find it in your heart to sign and share to help us get the word out. If the hotlink doesn't work for you here is the URL http://chng.it/5SdVhKph24 Our local community, Tangerine, Zellwood, and the surrounding neighborhoods have been plagued with some horrible smells in the last few years.  There are a number of stinky businesses that have caused us to band together. We report the smell incidents in our Facebook group and send e-mails to our state and local officials when they occur.  The commercial above was filmed in Tangerine and should give you an idea of how natural this area is.    Despite our efforts, the noxious odors are getting worse. We are being held hostage by "That Smell." Some days it's so bad that we can't go out in our yards and, on the worst d...

2_25_2020 E-mail Re: Anuvia and the Stink

REDACTED Tue 2/25/2020 11:33 AM You ;  EPDComplaints@ocfl.net;  Maria Repass;  mayor@ocfl.net;  Elizabeth.Roby@ocfl.net +14 others    Good Morning,  The odor this morning was particularly bad. My throat is burning and this has to stop.  I'm sharing my blog post this morning to share how my life is going since I retired from teaching. I used to zoom out of Tangerine at 4:50 am to be at work at 5:30 to be ready for students at 7:20 am. I'd return home at 3:30 pm and life was good. I missed out on most of the smells from our local businesses and wasn't aware of the true extent of the stench. Somehow I'd managed to live here for 26 years without knowing that I'd moved into an industrial park.  Yes, we had the mushroom farm. Then it was Shelley's Septic Tanks, and now Anuvia with a touch of Mid-Florida Materials dump spiced up with a whiff of Industrial Container Services.  Now I get up and read...
