That Smell in Tangerine, Florida and Nearby Neighborhoods

  Nearly a year ago, the founders of "That Smell in Tangerine and Surrounding Communities" came to the conclusion that it was going to take a concerted effort to reduce the odor problems in our area.  We started out as Tangerine residents living primarily around Lake Ola and spread to Zellwood, Stoneybrook Hills, and as far North as Round Lake Road. The Tangerine Improvement Society had been encouraging members to call elected officials when there was an odor. We saw that it wasn't enough and nothing was happening to solve the problems.  It was time to step up the effort, so the Facebook page page was born on January 12, 2020. It gave residents a chance to share their experiences and to begin to reach the right people at the regulatory level. It wasn't all peaches and cream, though. Anuvia’s Consent Order- The Short Version  I am not a lawyer and as a lay person, I wrote this summary mainly to further my understanding of this consent order and am sharing this to help others. Jones Avenue, Zellwood 32798.  Until this January I had only a vague idea of the location of your plant and I’d never heard of Anuvia. I had never driven down  Jones Avenue for any reason and I’ve lived her for 26 years.  Around the time that your plant opened I was aware of a foul odor. Sometimes it was horrible and at other times it was simply disagreeable. Based on the way the envelope was addressed, I believe that her office used the mailing address of the first property owner listed with the appraiser's office.  If you rent or lease you may not have received one. In that case, contact Ms. Moore via Facebook  Orange County District 2 Commissioner  or call her office at 407-836-7350 to get on her list as you should have a voice too.  Quoting  her, "...I still have concerns the remediation will be unsuccessful. ... [These businesses] must also be moved to action due to hearing first hand examples of how their odors are substantially altering lives."  We cannot let our work done so far slip away. We still need to send an e-mail or call Orange County to report to them. Orange County is working on having an online system to report and it was supposed to be up this week.
