April 4, 2020, 2:00 pm Hi, Does the group think the smell issues are from Anuvia?
Response: There are a variety of sources of smell in the area. One of the sources is Anuvia. I'm familiar with the smell of sulfur from before and I'm sensitive to it. Whatever is coming out of Anuvia's stack contains sulfur. They know they have a problem with their stack and are under a consent order to fix it. The smell I smelled today was Anuvia. What smell you get depends partly upon where you live and how the wind is blowing. Shelley's Septic Tanks has a meeting with Orange County Zoning on July 6th for ongoing zoning violations.
Other sources are ICS on Jones Avenue, a construction dump in Lake County that sometimes accepts garbage (and has been cited for it), and the Mount Dora water plant by Stoneybrook Hills. We have to wade through the tangle of smells. We are documenting odors for the FDEP and Orange County. When there is an odor, we sometimes call the businesses to ask if they are running or having a problem. Some are shorter term. Shelley's Septic Tanks and Anuvia are long-running problems. You can get caught up by checking out the blog. https://tangerinestinks.blogspot.com. The consent order is posted at the bottom of this post. https://tangerinestinks.blogspot.com/.../for-zellwood...
April 4, 2020, 9:30 pm If this is cancerous I’m dying for sure. Worked in the yard all day and depending on the wind it was super stinky chemical nasty stank in Greater Country Estates
Response: You're closer than we are so that makes sense. I was wondering today if perhaps settled dust from the area around their stack was blowing around or if they're up and running. They're no longer responding to my texts or returning calls. Maybe I need to go on a field trip in my car tomorrow.
Odor Reports
April 2, 2020, 8:19 am: It's a sunny 54° this morning with winds coming in from the NNW at 3 mph. There is no smell so I'll be doing some research and posting interesting links in comments. Enjoy the fresh air (while it lasts.)
..........
Respondent 1 That explains the clean air for the last few days.
Respondent 2 Yes, I was getting suspicious that they were down. It's been too nice for them to be running. The wind was coming in from the North so that could have explained it until it shifted to come in from the South today.
..........
April 4, 2020, Saturday, April 4th, the smell is back. Currently, it's a 1 out of 10 on my back porch. The wind is coming in from the South at 3 mph and I'm directly North of Anuvia on Lake Ola Drive.
April 4, 2020 [Referring to Anuvia] Basically, they have been continually poisoning people for a long time.
April 4, 2020, 9:10 A.M. Saturday Had to leave the deck and take the dog in due to poopy smell. King Avenue in Zellwood
April 4, 2020, The wind is now SSW at 7 mph and there is no smell on Lake Ola Drive now. 1:30 pm Saturday.

April 4, 2020, 12:00 pm We live in Mt. Dora. And yes, we smell these odors from time to time. It has to be really bad for people who are closer.
Response: Feel that. When I first moved into my new house it was a bad stretch with like 5 days of the terrible smell. I had not smelled a thing when visiting the property numerous times before purchase. I was very alarmed. It only seems to smell terrible once in a while now, but even a half-mile down the road I smell it all the time. A change in wind patterns could easily make this a much more common issue for me too. It's crazy. I'm located at Rutherford Road and Stoneybrook Hills Parkway. I smell it more often towards where Stoneybrook Parkway intersects with 441. [That's where the Publix is located.]
Response 2: One of the strange things about Anuvia's smell is that it's sometimes very concentrated in an area. They know they have a problem with their stack and they say they are working on it.
Response: Oh absolutely. I have figured that out and I have only lived in the area for 5 months.

April 4, 2020, 2:45 pm Article posted So what would Shelley's be other than a GIANT coronavirus hotbed?
Response: It's true that coronaviruses can be spread by aerosol activity (flushing) and faulty plumbing. I have no idea how that applies to sewage but it's a scary thought, probably for the workers than us. I think we should all avoid any fields they spread on, for sure. https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-spread-building... I'm using SARS as an example because it's related to Covid-19. A little more background on how to protect yourself from plumbing transmission. https://www.infectioncontroltoday.com/.../sars-and...
OP: If Shelley's dumps untreated RAW sewage, it is a problem.
Response: Yes, that was on my mind and in that case, people nearly would be in harm's way.

Of Note
Welcome to our new members. We are going to beat this smell. We've had a few nice days because Anuvia, I believe, is currently down. Sunday nights are often a time of unbearable smells and when they come, we send e-mails and make calls. If you smell a bad odor please document it on this page giving the wind direction (if you know it) and the closest cross streets.
