Zero Days Without A Smell Report

Check back for updates as reports come in-

Please note that reports are from a voluntary Facebook group and each report also represents an unknown number of individuals who are also aware of the smells that are permeating our neighborhoods. Thanks to Christine Moore's office, we are now able to document smell occurrences on a digital file.  

Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff

Smell Reports


 1.Post: 12 midnight Lake Ola Drive and Earlwood 5 on a scale of 1-10
   Response from group: Will it ever end?
   My response: It will if I have anything to do with it. I sent this out tonight. [See "other 
   business" and "screenshots" below]

 2.  11:39 am, it smells really bad here in Holly Estates right now.

 3.  11:45 am It, smells HORRIBLE. [Willow Street] It was like straight human waste. It was seeping into our house even with AC off.

 4. 12 pm, Lake Ola Dr,  winds SE, bad poop smell. It made my throat sore.

 4a. It stunk starting at noon today but it was intermittent. Whenever the wind came from the East it was BAD - stinky poop smell. Greater Country Estates

 5. 12:50 pm, Lake Ola Dr, my dogs wanted to go out. The poop smell is terrible! I went into a coughing fit. If the commissioners are concerned about people losing jobs because of violations that are harming our health, what about those of us who are now told to stay at home and are not working? We can't even go outside!

 6. Saturday afternoon, 86 degrees, saw 5mph wind: out on Lake Ola, faint odor in the lake at the area coordinating with Lake Street. Faint smell two hours ago at my house briefly.

 7. 7:45 pm, smell of smoke coming from the West on Lake Ola [later determined to be a firepit on Lake Ola Drive. [Screenshot below]
a. I saw smoke coming from one of the houses on Lake Ola Dr, but probably just someone doing barbecue.
b. I smelled it and a little smoky haze outside
c. I saw a haze floating over the lake but not sure where it was from.

 8. Poop smell on the weekend for sure. 8:00pm- Have been in the back of the house/lanai (facing Lake Ola & 441) whole afternoon and no issue. Detecting a poop smell now and heading inside.

 9. 8 pm. Poop smell on 441 and Jones so strong it can be smelled with the windows up and the car AC on. Very strong poop smell on Jones avenue. Anuvia has a poop smell too but not as strong. Lots of activity on Jones Avenue at Shelley's, Zelwin Farms, and Anuvia. Across from Shelley's small bulldozers were moving.

  "Report from my 12/17/20 tour of the Waste Water Plant" The Mt Dora Water Reclamation Facility on 441 and SR 46 has been in operation for approximately 12-15 years. Its’ primary function is to convert sewer wastewater into reclaimed water for irrigation purposes. The facility is operating at half its current capacity and is master-planned to be built to double its current size. Grease trap waste and septic tank waste are NOT accepted at the facility. Sludge (a compost material) extracted at the end of the reclaim process is hauled off by Shelly’s Septic for additional treatment and reuse as fertilizer. This sludge has no smell when it leaves the treatment plant site. After touring the facility, the only step that has odors is the "headworks" where the wastewater comes in and the "surge tank" where the wastewater is stored for processing. Zellwood Residents: Do We Need to Pursue This?

On February 5, 2021, FDEP issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a wastewater permit authorizing Shelley’s to continue to operate their Biosolids Treatment Facility (BTF). The public and other stakeholders have the opportunity to provide input by petitioning FDEP for an administrative hearing within 14 days of the Notice. Rules for petitioning can be found online. A time extension to file a petition may also be requested. Either request should be made directly through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of General Counsel. The mailing address is 3900 Commonwealth Blvd., Mail Station 35, Tallahassee, FL 32399-3000, or via electronic correspondence at Agency_Clerk@dep.state.fl.us followed by a mailed copy of the petition.

The Saga of Drainage into Lake Ola

From:  Ned Bowers  Sent:  4/19/2020 To:  Recipients Redacted Subject:  Orange County Permit Application - Drainage into Lake Ola As everyone is aware, I have been in a fight to protect my property rights for over 10-years.  In December 2019, the case went through a 5-day bench trial.  Fees the County will eventually pay are north of $800,000 and the damages trial will tack on another $200,000.  That may be a reason to never oppose the government.  Just allow them to do as they please no matter the harm.  Be it known, I support good government.  I only oppose corruption in government along with a coverup. The defense was terrible; embarrassing.
