Zero Days Without A Smell Report
Check back for updates as reports come in-
Please note that odor reports are from a voluntary Facebook group and each odor report represents an unknown number of individuals who are also aware of the smells that are permeating our neighborhoods. Not all odor events are reported due to the pervasive nature of the smell. If we reported every event, we'd get nothing else done due to the intermittent nature of the odors. Now we are concerned that our respiratory irritation could predispose us to Coronavirus. I'm not even sure that they should even be open during this time.* [See the letter from Anuvia regarding this in the 3/23/2020 Daily Sludge Report.]
With OUR taxpayer money!
What the heck?!
What a bunch of crap! No pun intended.
Water seeks its own level.
Odor Reports
Dudley Street area in Tangerine: Starting to smell it this morning. 8:39am. Winds are calm, but there is still a slight breeze from the south. It’s a shame that our lungs have to die just because a fertilizer plant is considered essential. This is not the sacrifice I wanted to make for my country.
Lake Ola area near 441: It is obvious the county isn't going to act soon enough to help us. Maybe we should go to the governor, I realize he is busy with coronavirus but he also wants to keep people healthy at this time.
Medical professional advisor With Desantis focusing on Lake County, maybe you could raise concerns? Especially since UF is studying the population?..just a thought...not necessarily a good one..but a thought.
10 am Lake Ola Drive, bad poop smell.
FOR DOCUMENTATION: Poopy smell 21:10 hrs (9:10 pm) today at King Street Zellwood

10 pm with the wind coming in from the west OMGOSH!! #TheSmell - Just let my dog out and truly CANNOT even take a breath without choking. On a scale of 1-10, the 💩💩💩 smell level is 25+. This is just so disgusting and my anger level is at 100++. I am beginning to not have any faith in our "Elected Officials" - you know, the ones, we ELECTED that are supposed to be working on OUR behalf. #TheSmellresidents and surrounding neighborhoods are the only ones who seem to be interested in this horrible problem. Let's NOT social distance - for one night or day - and have a pajama party and invite all of our Elected Officials over to camp outside overnight so they can experience the same "pleasure" of our foul air. Maybe then...... but probably not. This is so messed up. Documentation of wind speed and direction. The wind coming from the West with gusts at 7 mph. Greater Country Estates/Zellwood area.
Other countries' air pollution is lessening. It's really too bad the same can't be said about Tangerine and the surrounding areas due to Shelly's Septic and Anuvia.
Letters
I was copied on this message yesterday. It was sent to the long list of e-mail contacts.
I’m writing today to ask for your help for the community of Tangerine and surrounding areas.
You have been receiving emails from multiple residents asking for your help in giving us relief from the ongoing odors emitted by Shelly’s Septic and Anuvia.
I have refrained from contacting you every time I experience the unpleasant odors when I walk out of my home, simply because I don’t want to spend every day on my computer.
However, if that is what it is going to take to get action, then so be it.
The Tangerine Community and all its residents have reached a point where the government officials need to take action now.
Many of us are experiencing respiratory issues, headaches, sore throats, and other symptoms that are related to the pollutants being released on an on-going basis by these businesses.
I have had recurring sinus congestion, sore throats, migraine headaches, and nausea. I’m quite concerned for both myself and my neighbors.
Continuing to breath these fumes is affecting our health. both mental and physical, our overall wellbeing and may very well be shortening our lives.
The country is currently trying to deal with a pandemic. We know the COVID-19 affects the respiratory system of those who contract it. Health officials have warned those at “high risk” to avoid situations that will exacerbate the possibility of contracting this disease. The pollutants Tangerine residents have to deal with are putting all of this community and many of the surrounding areas at a higher risk and this is totally unacceptable.
It’s past time for you to shut these businesses down. Shelly’s Septic and Anuvia should not be operating. They obviously have not been following EPA regulations for quite some time.
Their business operations must be stopped from adding to the problems everyone is already facing.
Is it actually going to take pollution-related deaths in this community before action is taken?
I walked out of my house this evening at 5:30 and was immediately greeted by the unmistakable and very unpleasant odor of human waste. A full half-hour later and the smell had still not dissipated at which time I was experiencing yet another migraine headache complete with nausea.
Please take the necessary steps to ensure these businesses cease and desist operations immediately.
Thank you,

I was copied on this e-mail sent to Ashley Gardner this morning.
Dear Ashley,
I called your office earlier today and left you a message. I just wanted to follow up with an email. As you know, we are still smelling Anuvia and other odor sources in our area. I just recently found out that Anuvia can continue to produce fertilizer because they are considered essential to the farming industry. I fully support the farming industry. We all need to eat, but this sadly leaves our whole community at risk for lung damage. We need to be healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic because it causes immense damage to the human pulmonary system. I never thought I would have to sacrifice my health and home value for a fertilizer factory with an unvetted process, poor design, and flawed or absent studies on Florida weather patterns and atmospheric conditions.
I believe that the lives and health of the citizens of the Northwest region of Orange County Florida are also essential, and healthy pulmonary function is even more essential every day.
I hope you are having a healthy day.
Best regards,
Redacted.
