Zero Days Without A Smell Report

Please note that reports are from a voluntary Facebook group and each report also represents an unknown number of individuals who are also aware of the smells that are permeating our neighborhoods. Thanks to Christine Moore's office, we are now able to document smell occurrences on a digital file.  

Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff




Smell Reports

1. I was looking forward to a smell-free day today. When I detected an odor level of 2-3 out of 10, I texted Shelley's and Anuvia. Shelley's replied no and Anuvia thanked me for the report. [See screenshots below]

 2. At 7:45 am I smelled Monterey at Sadler. It wasn't the worst its been but was pretty nasty driving through there. I did not smell Shelleys or Anuvia when I left this morning.

3. I wanted to let my dogs have some outside time this afternoon. Unfortunately, there was a poop smell, it was a 2-3. I started to cough but wanted to stay out. It's really sad that my dogs cannot even enjoy being outside. When is this going to end? [See screenshots below]

4. I smelled it at the same time.

 5. 7:30pm Lake Ola dr, wind SE, horrible poop smell. On a scale of 1 to 10, it is 8

 6. The smell outside right now is AWFUL. I don't know how to describe it. It's definitely much worse than a 2-3. I say at least an 8 and it's no wonder I have a migraine.

 7. The horrible ðŸ’© smell on Earlwood!

 8. Friday - 7:43 pm - Was driving up from Apopka and, not sure why but decided to lower the window right after the Sadler intersection and got hit in the face by a nasty sewer/poop smell. At the top of the hill wasn’t that strong but, then my husband got home 20 mins later (driving from the West side of Tangerine) and says he smelled it as soon as he hit the corner of Earlwood and is it Lake? Where the post office is...Strong and sewer-like.

 9. It was really bad around the same time in Sullivan Ranch.

 10. It’s horrible. My husband said it started at about 5:30pm tonight [and still going on]

 11. I first smelled it at 441 and Sadler on the way home.

 12. I was copied on an e-mail complaint tonight. [See screenshots below]

13. Tangerine stinks. [Poop Emoji]

14. The smell is in the Laurels of Mount Dora tonight. [See screenshots below]

Other Business

1. E-mail sent to Ashley Gardner of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection by a community member:

Ashley,  The smell is back, and it is horrible!  We don’t need these companies to get away with subjecting us to their disgusting odor during this time where we are supposed to stay at home to protect ourselves from the spreading of the Coronavirus.   

Whatever happened to the consent order is also being discussed with representatives from Shelley’s facility off of Jones Ave?  They are going to keep doing what they are doing until they get served a consent order.  Let me know what you can do to help us.

  "Report from my 12/17/20 tour of the Waste Water Plant" The Mt Dora Water Reclamation Facility on 441 and SR 46 has been in operation for approximately 12-15 years. Its’ primary function is to convert sewer wastewater into reclaimed water for irrigation purposes. The facility is operating at half its current capacity and is master-planned to be built to double its current size. Grease trap waste and septic tank waste are NOT accepted at the facility. Sludge (a compost material) extracted at the end of the reclaim process is hauled off by Shelly’s Septic for additional treatment and reuse as fertilizer. This sludge has no smell when it leaves the treatment plant site. After touring the facility, the only step that has odors is the "headworks" where the wastewater comes in and the "surge tank" where the wastewater is stored for processing. Zellwood Residents: Do We Need to Pursue This?

On February 5, 2021, FDEP issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a wastewater permit authorizing Shelley’s to continue to operate their Biosolids Treatment Facility (BTF). The public and other stakeholders have the opportunity to provide input by petitioning FDEP for an administrative hearing within 14 days of the Notice. Rules for petitioning can be found online. A time extension to file a petition may also be requested. Either request should be made directly through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of General Counsel. The mailing address is 3900 Commonwealth Blvd., Mail Station 35, Tallahassee, FL 32399-3000, or via electronic correspondence at Agency_Clerk@dep.state.fl.us followed by a mailed copy of the petition.

The Saga of Drainage into Lake Ola

From:  Ned Bowers  Sent:  4/19/2020 To:  Recipients Redacted Subject:  Orange County Permit Application - Drainage into Lake Ola As everyone is aware, I have been in a fight to protect my property rights for over 10-years.  In December 2019, the case went through a 5-day bench trial.  Fees the County will eventually pay are north of $800,000 and the damages trial will tack on another $200,000.  That may be a reason to never oppose the government.  Just allow them to do as they please no matter the harm.  Be it known, I support good government.  I only oppose corruption in government along with a coverup. The defense was terrible; embarrassing.
