Please Help Me Get Rid of This Smell so I Can Do Other Stuff

We rate today as 5 poop emojis  ðŸ’©ðŸ’©ðŸ’©ðŸ’©ðŸ’©

Text: I let the dogs out at 5:15 am and there was no smell. By 6:30, it was absolutely horrible. It's picking up at the Tangerine Park and probably headed your way now.

There is just nothing quite like walking out your door in the morning and being greeted with an overpowering smell of human waste. UGH!! I feel lie I'm living in a 3rd world country! 7:00 AM

Thursday, March 5 Lake Ola Drive with the winds coming from the Southeast and the smell is awful yet again today. I'll be sending emails to the list of officials later this morning.

7:30 am. Taking the dog out (441 and Earlwood) and it stinks like a sewer. Barely any wind but, my phone says it’s coming from the South. I’ll be writing some emails today.

Q: Has anyone contacted Dr. Horton the builder of Holly Estates? - Has #TheSmell been a detriment to buyers who come to take a look for a potential new home?

A: We went there this morning and they weren't coming in until 10 am. We talked to some residents and the don't remember it being disclosed but were going to check. We called a real estate agent we know and she thought the builder used a 10-page disclosure that included just about everything. In short, I don't know, but anyone living there should check their contract.

It’s been horrible for the past two days!🤢

Do you in Holly Estates? We were over there this morning and we could smell it. Then we went to Willow Street and nearly fell over.

This morning the smell is horrible! My throat is raw and I am personally sick and tired of nothing being done! One of my dogs even started coughing yesterday while he was outside! Are we all going to develop esophageal and lung cancer before anything is done? We need to get an air quality monitor set up.

Discussion of Anuvia and Shelley's Septic Tanks and the heavy odor. The odor was detected nearly 7 miles away in the parking lot of Mount Dora Middle School. I called the school to verify this.

Does their fertilizer smell like raw sewage? That was the odor that I experienced at 7:00 AM

I think we have two sources going on. This was an acrid chemical odor that took your breath away. My friend was filtering the air through her tee-shirt pulled up to her nose.

This was taken on Willow Street

They have definitely rocked the boat on this issue. At least we have had and continue to have a voice when it comes to the smells. Hopefully, the business vetting process for companies such as these will be more robust in the future.

We could smell it in Holly Estates

The smell coming from Anuvia Plant Nutrients was absolutely revolting this morning. I know they are trying to fix this, but I have to ask, who had the bright idea to locate a fertilizer plant within a stone's throw of homes? #HollyCreek #WillowStreet #Zellwood

 I agree

We built our home 4 years ago and smelt the awful smell 3 months later.

How terrible.

The smell was strong here. There was a school bus picking up children to the left. I feel sorry for anyone, especially kids, who have to breathe this.— in Zellwood, Florida.

My nose is toast after breathing Anuvia on Willow Street.

I don't doubt that in the least. I can't even walk through the fertilizer aisles at Lowes or Home Depot so I can only imagine how horrible it would have been for you to be right in the midst of all of that! ðŸ˜Ÿ

My question is what has changed? Anuvia has been operating and producing fertilizer for 4 years now and Shelleys has been there 30 years. Why all of the sudden is this happening?

Anuvia is just now starting to increase production. Alex #2 guy at Anuvia told me that this is the first time they're run production in the winter. Weather issues such as temperature inversions and wind direction play a role too.

As for Shelley's they have been cited for running a wastewater plant without a permit and illegally spreading waste. The same weather issues may affect them too.

I'm sure you were extremely upset. We didn't build our home but when I started experiencing the smells from these various companies I really regretted buying here.

No, smelled it all the way to Mount Dora.

Good afternoon,
I am writing to provide you an update on several facilities in your area. First, I’d like to thank you for continuing to share regular updates and for taking the time to forward the videos to me on Tuesday.
As some of you know, Department staff were in the area Tuesday conducting an odor investigation in response to your emails. We were able to verify off-site odors at Shelley’s, Anuvia, and Industrial Container Service.
The Department met with Anuvia on March 2, 2020, and came to an agreement to enter into a consent order. We are still discussing appropriate action items, but hope to have that consent order drafted by the end of this week. Please keep in mind that this is a legal document that will need to be reviewed by attorneys on both sides, so it may be a few weeks before the consent order is finalized and effective. In the meantime, if we verify odors, they will be accounted for and incorporated into the consent order. In addition, the consent order will not authorize the facility to have objectionable odor leave their property and will outline a mechanism to hold the facility accountable for any future violations.
A consent order is also being discussed with representatives from Shelley’s facility off of Jones Ave. Our expectation is that this consent order will encompass all issues identified at the facility. It will require corrective actions and have similar items as noted above.
Industrial Container Service has an air emission permit and is regulated by the Orange County Environmental Protection Division (permit number AIR_0950055). Our Assistant Director notified OCEPD of the verified odor complaints we observed on Tuesday and they will be handling the case with that facility moving forward. If you have any questions, please contact Ilka Bundy at Ilka.Bundy@ocfl.net.
As indicated in my previous email, the Department is committed to inspecting any possible odor source in the area and has identified several sites. Thorough site inspections are being coordinated for these facilities in the immediate future. However, we will continue to respond to any odor concerns in the area.
I hope this information helps. The Department appreciates your continued cooperation and patience as we work through our enforcement processes. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
Thank you,
