The Daily Sludge Report

Zero Days Without A Smell Report

Check back for updates as reports come in

The day started off with this:

I am smelling That Smell this morning. It smells like fertilizer and sewage treatment. The time is 8:18 am and winds are from the Southeast at 5mph. Area: Dudley Ave and Dora Drive. Now I am not sure if I should call Anuvia or complain to the county about Shelley's. I feel my property value dropping. Gross!

I live in Greater Country Estates and have my back sliding door open and I don't smell anything. I am much closer to Jones Ave. as well.

Well, we notice it, so something is definitely wrong. ðŸ˜‚

It’s like a nasty cloud floats up into the air from the smell sources, and when the conditions are just right, they descend upon the land. It’s like random stink bombs. Funny...not funny. I guess today was my day to be skunked.

I am at the end of Sadler. What we are getting this morning is the mushroom farm.

I know the wind direction seems wrong, but is there any chance that you're getting smells from the water reclamation plant by Stoneybrook Hills?

I'm certain it’s not that,it’s getting worse. Wind from the south now. 9mph. Eyes burning.

I called them this morning and I don't think it's them. Richard, the guy who gets the odor complaints, was very forthright about the odors they produce. I'll write about it in the Daily Sludge Report.

Anuvia's phone number is 352-720-7070. Can you give them a call and ask if they're running? If there is one thing that I'm learning, it's that the wind and weather effect smells more than one would ever suspect.

Has anyone considered Mt Dora's two sewage treatment plants as possible stinkers?

It's time to write some e-mails. FDEP is meeting with Anuvia this morning but I don't know where the meeting is. If it's on Jones Avenue, then they'll know it.  I smell it too.

Anuvia's phone number is 352-720-7070. Can you give them a call and ask if they're running?

I just walked outside. The smell is nauseating. Smells like sewage to me. Off of Dora Road between Dudley and Earlwood

It’s gross. This morning it was fertilizer. Now, it’s a sewage smell. It’s like The smells leap frog each other.

I'm not discounting what you all smell. But I live closer to Anuvia and Shelley's septic over in Greater Country Estates, which is just south of Lake Ola off of Sadler. right now sitting outside in my backyard with a breeze I smell absolutely nothing. so my conclusion is the smell you guys have must be coming from somewhere else.

I'm thinking that the wind is carrying it over you. You are so lucky.

Ten minutes ago it was stanky but now no smell.

4:45 pm I got home early and wanted to take the dogs for a walk. When I got out of my car the stench was enough to knock you over! No walks today, sorry puppies.

I got in right before I saw your post and it was stinking outside. I sent Anuvia another text.

4:25pm have had the door open most of the day. Smell so bad now it is giving me a headache. Don't know if winds have changed.

Winds are still out of the South at 9 mph.
I am glad you texted them. I have been sneezing all day. Not sure if it is the oak trees or whatever is causing the smell, but the sneezing is worse today than yesterday.

5:20 pm: I just returned from south GA. The poop stench in Tangerine is right now obnoxious.

BTW, the smell has gotten more intense since I posted my original message.

Sometimes enough is enough. I sent my 3rd text of the day to Anuvia this afternoon and then called them. Alex and I had a nice 20-minute chat. The plant manager drove down Sadler and Lake Ola to check for odors when he left work today. I shared with Alex that I'm frustrated. He seems to be an above-board kind of guy who is trying to figure out how to fix this problem. He is some kind of engineer, I forget what kind, and when he's not doing his job, he's trying to solve this problem.

Letting Anuvia know to check this post via FB Message
I got to the gym and there are more comments.

I’ve noticed recently that when the poop smell comes so does the wildfire smell. It makes me wonder if their burning to try to cover up the poop smell????

I have not noticed that. And I live on the border of Shelley's.

I talked to Alex, the #2 guy at Anuvia today. We discussed the burnt smell. I'll add our conversation to today's Sludge Report.

We need a map with the street names on it for our group as well as for them so that we're on the same page when we talk about where the odors are. I'll call Christine Moore's office tomorrow to ask about one. If anyone has any idea about how to find such a map, please leave a comment.

Someone also complained about the smell in downtown Mt Dora on the Mt Dora Word of Mouth Facebook group tonight.

My husband, who seldom complains, noted that it was quite smelly when he was walking the dog

March 2, 2020 E-mail sent to everyone on the list

Good afternoon,

I live in Tangerine, Florida, approximately three miles from Jones Avenue in Zellwood. Once again we're getting noxious odors. I've started an online report that posts daily. Here is the link for today. It will be updated as odor reports come in. https://tangerinestinks.blogspot.com/2020/03/locations-of-odor-complaints-3-02-2020.html

Please record this odor report and forward it to the appropriate departments. I believe that today's odor is coming from Anuvia Plant Nutrients and possibly Shelley's Septic Tanks as well. The odor alternates between a chemical fertilizer smell and a mixed odor of sewage and chemicals.

I've confirmed that Anuvia is running today.

I'm interested in knowing there is some reasonably priced equipment we could get to monitor particulate matter in the air. Certainly more than air is leaving that plant. It's causing respiratory irritation and that can't be healthy.

Please forward this to the appropriate departments.

Best regards
