HEALTH EFFECTS OF BIOSOLIDS APPLIED TO LAND


The chemical and biological makeup of biosolids can vary greatly depending on the source of the sewage and the treatment processes it undergoes. Sources include wastewaters of households, commercial establishments, industries, medical facilities, and in some cases street runoff. EPA has pre-treatment standards that set industry-specific effluent limits (11). Treatment plants must have approved ordinances that establish quality standards, and monitoring and enforcement penalties before they can accept industrial wastewater contributions (11). Continued
