Shelley Septic Tanks-Public Records Request 53853
Update:
This came in from Nick Cooper this afternoon: Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. As we looked into your concern with Shelly’s Septic, it was determined that Shelly’s property is located outside of Lake Ola’s drainage basin (see map below). Shelly’s runoff flows south through a retention pond that is owned by Orange County and then continues through a constructed wetland that is owned by St. Johns River Water Management District. From there, water continues to flow south towards Lake Apopka.
I'll write a separate post on this topic.
Below you'll find the e-mail I received today from Orange County's Code Enforcement Public Records Coordinator. They found no record of zoning violations. I am scratching my head on this response. As I look out on Lake Ola, I'm reminded of how the water is less clear than in previous years and how the lake seems to be nutrient full. I wonder how long it will be as clear as it is now. I am convinced that runoff of some kind is causing this, and hmm, Shelley's has been noticed by the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation for control of its stormwater runoff. Of course, there could be other causes but it doesn't appear that they've had any zoning violations even as they violate their permits. View that letter here.

In the past Shelley's Septic Tanks was found in violation of laws regarding the proper operation of their business and was involved in court action due to this. (Refer to the documents regarding this here.)
This, people, is why we need to write e-mails and copy them to the e-mail address list at the bottom of this post. Shelley's Septic Tanks has currently been served notice by the Florida State Department of Environmental Protection for violating state requirements. I've posted the e-mail from them at the very bottom of this post below the e-mail list. We need our concerns documented and easily findable by the citizens of Tangerine, Zellwood, and other nearby neighborhoods. It seems as if we have to actively advocate for the quality of our lives, our bodies of water, and our air, or no one else will.
You can send one e-mail to everyone on the list by copying the list here and pasting the addresses in the "To" section of your e-mail. Be sure to copy the e-mail to yourself as well. You are welcome to post your e-mail (you may redact your name) in the comment section on this post.
