We Have Odor Reports Today
A Note From the Editor
It appears that all of our letters and phone calls are getting somewhere. I've spent a good part of the day working on questions to ask county officials about the progress or lack thereof, the consent orders for Anuvia Plant Nutrients, and Shelley's Septic Tanks. Please let me know via the Facebook page if you have questions you'd like to be included in the list. The current list is posted below.
Zero Days Without an Odor Report
Odor Reports
Call and write e-mails when you smell the odors. Don't give up, that is what the offending businesses want us to do. The e-mail list is located at the bottom of the page.
The only complaints that I heard about odors today were from Lake Ola Drive. You know, the usual Anuvia smell, both in the morning and the evening. For the last few days, the odor has awakened me when I was trying to sleep in until Andrew Cuomo came on. I can stay in bed writing e-mails and use his online schedule to be sure to be up for his pressers. Unless the daily stink gets in the way.* #pandemiclife
*If this post seems a little wittier than usual, credit Seth Myers who I'm watching as I write this.
Letters and Correspondence
Questions to ask about Shelley’s response to the numerous violations by Shelley’s Septic Tanks
1a. Construction of a new building without a permit- wouldn’t this require a special exception process before the Board of Zoning Adjustment?
1b. The same question as above for additional spreading fields- wouldn’t this also require a special exception process before the Board of Zoning Adjustment?
2. What has caused such lengthy delays in responding to the code violations related to odor issues on Jones Avenue?
3. Who ordered the “30 days to retain consultant on odor
issues” and established the timeline? Does this apply to
Anuvia as well as Shelley's?
4. Who dictates the parameters of how Shelly’s operates?
5. Were hearings were conducted on these violations? If so,
what specific hearings were held, and please provide us with
minutes of those meetings.
6. What notice of hearings (if any) were given to concerned
residents?
7. Is there any zoning in place anywhere along Jones Avenue
which allows the use (manufacturing, agriculture, or other use)
to permit the transmission of noxious odors outside the
property line limits? If so, is there a distance beyond which
these noxious odors must dissipate and not be offensive to
persons occupying residentially zoned properties?
